Coffee, tea and your evening: finding your cut-off
Enjoy caffeine and still wind down well.
Somni team · Awaiting review by a sleep clinician

Coffee, tea, cola and energy drinks can keep some people alert long after the cup is empty. Everyone is different, so the goal is to find your own cut-off time.
A simple default
Somni suggests a caffeine cut-off 8 hours before your lights-out as a starting point. This is a general default, not a rule, and some people need longer or shorter.
Try a one-week experiment
- Keep your usual amount, but move your last cup earlier.
- Check in each morning: how long did it take to fall asleep, and how rested do you feel?
- Compare with the week before.
Some teas, sodas, chocolate and pre-workout drinks contain caffeine. Check labels if you are unsure.
If you are pregnant, take medication, or have a heart condition, ask a doctor or pharmacist about caffeine. Somni does not give medical advice.
